For anyone else interested -I went to the online Panasonic store and saw that the 100-400 mm lens was available. That was a surprise to me - other places that I have looked show it as a pre-order. So I did a live chat and indeed it is actually available for shipping. Hmm- what to do now. That's a lot of money-- that's a lot of lens! I'm in paralysis mode :)

I am sure it is a GOOD lens. The f6.3 is a turn off for me but that is what makes it small/manageable and gets you to 800mm equiv.

Just sayin, for $300 LESS than this lens you can get the new Sony RX10III camera and lens and get 24-600mm 2.4- f4 - on a smaller sensor. Keep the M4/3 for wide to normal focal lengths and use the Sony for the tele stuff.

If I had not already bought the Gx8 in anticipation of the 100-400 mm lens release I would be tempted. The constant F4 is an advantage. And I might still do it when the price comes down. But I think I will go full speed ahead and get the 100-400 mm lens now.
