I have a olympus pen camera. (Which I dislike immensely , and I haven't used it in over a year). But I recently discovered that I can use my Leica M lenses on it. So here's my question. I am wondering if anyone is using this setup. And how do they like it. Please only respond if you have a similar setup.

Which Pen?

I use adapted lenses on my EM1 occasionally, but they are M42 lenses.

Look for your lens here, and see what others have done:

Oye...I understand your dislike now. The lack of external dials for adjusting settings can be maddening. I own it's big brother (epm2) and the best thing that it has going for it is its compact size.

Leica partners with Panasonic to make lenses for m43 cameras:

15mm f/1.7
25mm f/1.4
42.5mm f/1.2
45mm f/2.8 Macro
100-400mm f/4-f/6.3
And another zoom or two I can't recall.

Older Leica (film and digital camera) lenses can fit via adapters, but you are stuck with no IS, no AF, etc. Still, they work!

If you really want the benefits of m43, ditch the Pen you have. Look at the new Pen-F and the Panasonic LUMIX GX8... Oly OM-D EM-1, and Panny GH4. Or wait for new models likely to drop at Photokina.

I'd probably sell my old gear and get new, because I no longer use film.

Rumor now is that em1ii is to be released at Photokina 2016.

The thing is that I bought the 4/3 camera because a reviewer said that it was like using an M Camera. But he lied. I really prefer an slr. I like looking thru my lenses. The only reason that I am even considering trying it again is that I have 6 m lenses and the mirrorless camera. I can try them on the Olympus for the cost of an adapter. Im not interested in investing anymore into that system. Plus I dont really care about af.
The next big decision is wether to get a R leica 180 F2 and adapt to the D800E or a nikkor 200 f2.

That should be the adapter you need to try.

One of the issues (and the EPM1 has a lot more than just one issue) is that the camera lacks external dials in the proper spot to quickly adjust settings like ISO and speed, which are what you'll be adjusting to use your adapted lenses. That said $25 is relatively in expensive to find out how those lenses will work. Did you look at the earlier link that had the adapted lens database from users of m4/3 and Leica lenses?

I much prefer to use my adapted pentax lenses on my em1 over my epm2 for that very reason above...that and the em1 has a viewfinder.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Then check this out along with the Fotodiox adapter Clint mentioned.

Those are great Leica M lenses. It's a shame you don't like the Pen you have. But judging from DPReview's comments about that EP1, I wouldn't like it much, either.

If you do buy an adapter, try to borrow or rent an OM-D series (EM-1 or EM-5 Mark II) or a Pen F, or a LUMIX GH4 or GX8 and see what you think of that. Their EVFs are all quite good, overall response is much better, and IQ is much better from all of them.

agree...the epm1 gives m4/3 a bad name. There's been so many advances with m4/3 since that camera.

...And there is no reason to dislike m43 overall. The native lens selection is stellar, and adapters mate with most dSLR lenses ever made, plus quite a few cine and rangefinder lenses, too.

Take a look at the Corkboard Blog and see what another one of the 'Hogger — Daniel J. Cox — thinks. I'm pretty sure he has explored adapters, since he is also known to have used some pretty significant Nikon glass...

if you are making mostly colour images, i would skip the r180 and go with the r180 f3.4 apocromat lens. it's stunning and you will most likely not have any problem with adapting it to your device. or....you can pick up a leica r9 in good condition, get the digital back, full frame, and just bolt your leitz lenses directly onto that.
