Happy Birthday Sinatraman!
Having said that, here's my critique:
1) The shot of the cake with lit candles is just fine.
2) The cake shot needs cleaning up to look good. I don't know if you're trying for a menu-like shot here, but if you are, do the following:
a) Remove the stray cake crumbs and icing smears. Use a q-tip or something.
b) Use a freshly washed fork, that is as shiny as possible. Arrange the items attractively. The burnt candle works well, but get rid of the trash around it and clean it up, again with a Q-tip.

to everyone that posted since my last thank you, a very big thanks. this was the best birthday i've had in decades (literaly). Your kind words mean more to me than you can ever know. I am diaganosed with severe chronic depression. one of its symptons is that you tend to feel invisable that no one notices you at all. This thread is proof of how big a lie that really is. When people take the time to say a kind word, or do an act of kindness it is like saying the words of God, in that it doesn't come back void. Each and everyone of you deserves a kind deed done for you in return especiaaly tilde. I get great joy out of helping others in photography because I know how important it is to me. When i have a camera in my hands or if i am working on a photo in elements, i feel NORMAL. photography calms my mind and gives me joy, so i do what i can to pass that joy on to others. I think of it like a karmac debt. The only other area in my life i feel good about is my obnoxious sense of humor. which is why i can be such a joker on this website. if i can make people laugh i feel that my life has purpose and meaning. thanks from the bottom of my heart turning my 50th bday from something i was dreading to an event i will cherish for the rest of my life. I owe you all, if there is anything i can do for you let me know. God Bless you all :!:
