This little rabbit had a distinguished career as the logo for the White Rabbit Press during the late 1950's and early '60s. The WRP was a collaboration between Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Jack Spicer, and Robin Blazer.... "Beat" poets of the first water, all. I had the distinct pleasure of limning the little fella after a design by another SF area poet whose name escapes me.
The term Beat really did a serious disservice to some serious writers. It was, after all, just a sobriquet invented by a journalist from the New York Times book review. It has absolutely no meaning when it comes to literature in general and poetry in particular.
Such is life. Even a Beat life!
Cute. I wonder if anyone has tried reading something sinister into that design.

Probably. There are folks who read sinister meanings into everything.

Jefferson Airplane's 'White Rabbit'? Just wondering. Things that make you go 'Hmmmmmm....'

Hi David, I do remember the White Rabbit Press, although I assumed Ferlinghetti was sole owner. Thanks for the accurate history. I had a very enjoyable visit to your website. I like your art! Always good to meet a neighbor.
Regards, Phil
