I value this site because I get to 'meet' people I'd not meet elsewhere: people I'd never 'meet' if I huddled together with those whose politics exactly match mine. Here, we are united solely by a love of photography (I'd never have found the site otherwise).
Why are you so angry? Anger is normally based on fear, so what are you afraid of?

Well Roger, who told you that "Anger is normally based on fear"?? Actually it may be based on disgust, revulsion, or perhaps justified if one is insulted for an opinion. As for the rest....
What is "rational"about joining a photography forum,as you say for the purpose of meeting people,"united solely by a love of photography",and then USING that forum to stir up political issues, get people emotionally upset about something other than photography, stir up trouble intentionally,(as they know what they are doing),and cause insults and animosity?
So you're "afraid of censors?" Where are the censors? Obviously there is plenty of free speech in this country,so this is not a rational objection to someone's wish that the chit-chat be eliminated. What good use is it to anyone when the forum is used in this way to drive people away?
And last of all, i wonder if it's "rational" to accuse someone with a different opinion from yours and then call yourself "rational". Maybe in "polite society" the old advice for people to get along is best, not to discuss politics, religion, or the other subjects not best suited to congenial friendships. And last of all Roger, what does this all matter to you if you sit in France telling us how we should think? The only thing international about this forum is/was,as you said,"united solely by a love of photography". Political views expressed as "gospel truth", no matter where they come from, tend to be divisive in any large group of people, but especially overheated in an election year. But what is that to you,you don't live here, vote here, pay taxes here, perhaps your fear of "censorship" is a little too well developed to be "rational". Try to consider then that the OP here had some valid reasons to request that this chit-chat section be removed. It was, after all,a sort of after thought, not part of the original forum, and to claim that other sites for other reasons have their own chitchat is just another bit of erroneous "reasoning"that we should do something simply because other people do elsewhere.
