Because, look how cool they are. This guy can change his color so fast that it is nothing but magic to watch. In the first shot he was half-heartedly mimicking the coral and rocks behind him. Then he took off to a new spot. When they swim (this is the Hawaiian Day Octopus) they are a dark red. In the third shot, he'd found a new hiding place. His eye and surrounding area are colored to match the rock on the left, while his arm with it's peach-on-cream coloration matches the rocks behind him. Who'd want to eat that, he's far more fun and fascinating to watch! Take only pictures, leave only bubbles.

Getting ready to swim away
New Hiding place with color and texture to match.
The first and third are definitely camouflaged. They are so neat looking. I'd probably swim right by and never know I saw it. That's why I take lots of pictures and then study them later to find things I missed. It's amazing how they just blend right in. I'm so ready to come back to Hawaii.
