Seriously? I had to turn down 2 weddings for 2 different dates because of silly things like my wife's surprise birthday party, and my nephew's wedding that I refused to shoot.

Life sucks......................then you die!! LOL
Have one today and my back is still out from the last four weeks of construction work up on the NY house. The Tramadol's aren't even working, doubled up. This is going to an an interesting day. I can stand, but deviations send me in to the throes of pain. Did not have time to get a sub. Wish me luck......or at least send me morphine!!! LOL

Pack a bunch of ice packs to plaster on your back, with a layer of something between them and your skin. The chemical break and shake ones will do on short notice, and are available at most drug stores. Hand someone some cash to make a run out to get some of them for you. Reduce the inflamation, ease the pain.

I recall a certain poster on this forum that suggested you not shoot your families wedding and use the excuse that you will probably get a high paying gig for that same day .......... can't remember the poster
and I thought that same person wasn't going to the Nephew's Wedding after the family portrait creation episode. :?:

So I got in my truck to go pick the assistant up. Drove 5 minutes and the pain was unbearable. Drove back home. On couch with heating pad. On the couch I looked up and asked God to get me through the day and I would take the pain tomorrow in stride. I don't like to burden God too much so I took 2 500 mg Tramadol's and put a Lydacain patch on my back. The heat did it' imed effect and I found as long as I did not bend I was OK. Called back my partner and said I was not going to bail and I would do the wedding. All day....nothing. 10PM-ish everything wore off. Remember that deal with God, well he kept up his end and so I have to do. I was almost crying with the pain as my nurse daughter sat on the couch chastising me for doing what I did that day. Next Week doctors, my Bride and her family knew the shape I was in. They came to me at the end of the day and said there was no amount of nice things they could say for what I did for them. I picked up two weddings from guests. It seems everyone else knew what I was going through and they said 'Wow'. So I see it as sacrifice does pay, sometimes in the end. Now if I can only find that bag with the meds in it. Need to edit the pictures.
Thanks for your suggestion!!!!!

I remember when my back surgeon gave me a brace to wear a few weeks before my surgery. I was wearing it the last wedding before the surgery, and got so much sympathy, I considered wearing it ever time
Honestly, if the pain gets really bad, as it does from time to time, I will break out the brace, and wear a sports jacket over it (hate to do that for hot, outside weddings) but it will get me through a day. Basically, the brace has these metal wires running through it, and they won't ALLOW me to bend. That is what seems to kill me.
Glad you survived, and got a few bookings out of being a trooper.

 Hmmm, I can't remember. Honestly, I did flat out refuse to shoot the wedding, or even take my camera.

  She who must be obeyed had something different to say about that. I'm sure many men can relate to how it is easy to say things in front of peers, but when SWMBO speaks, we shut up and listen. :)

It sure felt good to put my foot down and say that I wasn't even going.......but I also knew that it would bite me in the butt.
It all worked out. I got a call later on Friday, and have headshots lined up for a company here in town, (about 100 employees) and they now want me to quote how much I want for them to fly me out to CA and do the headshots for the home office.

Awesome Bob...
Got two outdoor weddings booked one late October, and another early November. Cringing a bit, but I look at it as a challenge. Perhaps it will be overcast. :?:

What time of day?
I'd much rather do weddings than headshots, but right now, I'll take it.

But you would get to visit CA. Not sure of location, but we both know of a guy out in CA that could be an asset if you go out there.
The outdoor fall weddings, one is at 5 another at 2. I confident with the staged shots, just a little concerned about long shadows during the ceremony. I'll be scoping out the venues in about two weeks to get a better lay of the land and to start working a strategy.
