I have a request for a 40x50 print, or if that isn't possible, 36x48. Unfortunately, the places that I general use, only go up to 30x40 at the largest.

Any suggestions, and moreover, any experiences with these printers?

They don't want canvas, this is going to be matted and framed and put over the largest fireplace in a great room larger than my house.

Help would be appreciated.

I use Tempe Imaging Center exclusively. They can easily handle that size print.

Google Professional Photofinishers and inkjet printing services. Inkjet prints made on Epson printers on photo papers are the best. They last longer, have more color saturation, and are available up to 44" wide by 60" or longer.

Keep in mind that the 40x50 will be a crop print, 40x60 will be full frame.
I print this large every week, wonderful impact from a print that big.

BayPhoto prints photo prints (C type wet process) up to 30x120, a 40x50 would be printed on 40x60 with a wider border on the sides, and it would cost $90 with full color correction, or $60 if you do that yourself. If it is your first order with them, I think they extend a 25% discount.

Old Al Loc: Litchfield County, Connecticut

The MOST important element is not the photo lab but your camera, set-up & technique. Use your best lens, stop it down at f5.6 or so, use a tripod with mirror up (or live view if your camera is new), and a cable /electronic release. Bracket your exposure for the optimum result and definitely shoot in Raw and export the file in a Tiff format to the printer. NO CROPPING!! With my Nikon 810 & either a Zeiss lens or a Sigma 35 or 50 Art lens , have made spectacularly sharp 6 foot photos which are jaw dropping. (not because of my shots, but the quality of the ink jet prints). Good luck

miles each way to use their service as they are Absolutely Tops!

Correct. I have one printed 44"w by 13'l. Lengths are limited only by the roll length.

...and the software/hardware used to render the image. Some (older) RIPs have limits related to memory.

Yup, I have shown them the 2 different crops for the 2 different sizes.

I thought about you and some of your posts about large printing in your shop.

Do you print for Hoggers?

If so, what would it cost me? I'm trying to get them a quote.

Great, I'm in Ft. Wayne, so I only have about that far as well.

The AAA1 and different terms for sizes has always driven me nuts. I really wish that paper size was just paper size.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be contacting them as well. I plan to make MORE than enough to pay for the drive.

Have a shoot coming up in Terre Haute soon. I turned it down, but they offered me an additional $1 a mile, (over 200 each way) AND to put me up in a hotel. How could I say no?

Sometimes the drive is worth it.

Thanks for the advice, but I've had photos from a 6mp D70 made into ads for the side of a bus.

Still good to share info like that, for others that might be interested, and buy into the whole (you can only print an 11x17 with a 24 mp camera, etc.)

The portrait is already taken, so now the only thing is finding someone to print at a quality worth what I'm going to charge them for it. 8-)
