I recently purchased a new Tamron 18-270mm as a general purpose "walk around" lens. I am not over the moon with it as I feel it could be a lot sharper.
When time and opportunity presents I will take some shots on a tripod as I think my breathing may be part of the problem.

Very nice captures. I love the yellow flower shot.

They look pretty good to me, John. I bought a Tamron 16-300mm about 18 months ago & it was superceding/replacing the 18-270, so I am surprised that you were able to buy yours new. Anyway, mine is a bit soft at maximum zoom, but is pretty sharp otherwise--takes great landscapes at the small end. :D :D

I also have this lens and I am not really pleased with it even though I use it a lot. Mine has the habit of extending out by itself when I am not using and just walking around. It is not as sharp as I would like.

Thank you for looking. Settings for the rose and lilly were:-
Aperture Priority, f/8, iso 200, 1/125sec, 65mm. Can't tell you what the Kookaburra was as I disliked the shoot so much I deleted it. I have come to the conclusion that in future I am going to use Time priority and auto ISO to counteract my breathing/shaking problems unless I have a tripod.

I couldn't afford the 16-270 (well could have but didn't want to spend the money - it's the penny pincher in me. LoL) This lens was half the price because it was, as you said, superseded. I knew that but it didn't bother me as I reckon 18-270 is not much different to 16-270 as far as a walk around lens goes. I don't think there is anything wrong with the lens mate. I am sure it's me.

Hi Jean, thanks for looking. I'm sorry you aren't happy with yours either. But I am pretty sure it's me and not the lens.

I have also had some problems with my 18-270. It took great/stellar pictures with my t3i. When I upgraded to a 70D images became soft. Working with Tamron I found that the lens needed a firmware upgrade which they did free and quickly (I had to pay shipping).

Since then I have noticed the images are still somewhat soft so I again sent it to Tamron under warranty. I have not received it back as yet (scheduled to be delivered tomorrow.)

If images are still soft I will do a MA and see if that corrects it. If not I will purchase another lens.

I like the lens allot as a walk around but I also have the problem of it extending on its own.

Thanks for your information. Let me know how you get on. My lens has a lock on it that stops it extending on it's own. Does yours not have this function?
I have never heard of a lens needing an upgrade because you changed cameras. Can you elaborate on that please. Thank you very much for stopping by and commenting.
