I've got a problem with a Nikon 18-55mm lens. It seems loose and almost wobbly. Can I repair it, if not is it worth sending it out for repair?
Help!
You'll have to research that one but chances are real good that you could get a new one for jot much more than it would cost to fix the old one.
Sounds like one of the mounting flanges is broken off... You can buy replacements & replace it yourself, not hard to do. That said, if you send it out for repair, it will cost almost as much as a new lens.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll take it apart and give a shot to fixing it myself. Chances are that I can't screw it up much more.
Thanks again!

Toss it. It would probably cost more to repair than to purchase a brand new one.
It should have a five-year warranty. How long have you had it?

It's old. I bought it used.

Depends if it is under warranty?

Perhaps just a few too many beers for it.
Let it sober up and see how it performs.
Actually I have no clue.

It's the front part that's loose. The part of the lens that moves in and out.
Anybody fixed one like that?

There are YouTube videos on either this lens, or similar lenses. I have the same lens with the same problem. Too much to send in so I'm going to try to fix myself. If I can't, then I will sell parts on eBay. Good luck.

If you aren't successful in fixing it yourself, keep in mind you can buy a refurbished 18-55mm AF-S lens at Nikon USA for $89.96.
For less money than a repair you can replace it with a vr model. Just through your old one away. In fact you could probably get a good used 18-200 vr for about the same as a repair bill. Time for a change.
