Did I get ripped off by Buydig.com? Is it USA warranty or grey market?

A couple of days ago, I took the advice of several of you and went to NIKONUSA and registered the D7100. Nothing happened until today. Their website rcognized my camera as being a registered USA warranty product. My whole concern from the beginning was will I be able to get the camera fixed by NIKONUSA. I appreciate the help that many of you provided and for the curmudgeons who spate negative comments I hope that Karma doesn't get the better of you.

Finally, I wish to apologize to BuyDig.com for doubting that they sold me a grey market product. Controversy is now over, Rongnongno.

I'm glad you got all your questions and concerns answered.
It's a good deal you also got your Camera Registered with Nikon.

Isn't Buy Dig affiliated with Beach Camera which I believe to be an authorized dealer?

Your USA serial number will start with a 30, it's that simple.
I have had several Nikon's D5100, D5200, D5300, D600 and D800E.

Not necessarily. There are exceptions.

There are no exceptions all USA Cameras serial #'s start with 30.
Any other # is a grey market Camera.

Per http://www.dslrbodies.com/cameras/camera-articles/nikon-camera-serial-numbers.html (Note that other citations of this information are available.)

"Note: it appears that Nikon hasn’t changed the number of digits in most serial numbers, which as product quantities increased in the digital age, has caused Nikon to have to abandon the clear logic they formerly used. For example, with the D7100, Nikon started using the 25xxxxx code for US bodies; it appears that Nikon has been adjusting many of their previous serial numbers to give them plenty of room for US and European bodies, and since the US D7100 number comes after the initial number for the much smaller Japanese market, it makes some sense to "steal" some of the Japan numbers."

In addition, shortages in the US have resulted in cameras destined for other countries being sent to the US; Nikon in Japan has made notations of those serial numbers to allow US warranties.

What a load of big girls blouses - if the camera needs repair - send it to Nikon - if they won't repair it - chuck it and buy another one . If the camera does not need repair - what the # is all this about.

Like he said, he'd rest easier knowing. I think I'd want to know too.

Since it came from an authorized dealer, in a gold box, and it had all the bits and pieces, it's probably a genuine USA Nikon. The price is another indicator. If a dealer is selling a camera for a lot less than other dealers, it's gray market - or used.

Interesting. I've bought over two dozen Nikon DSLRs, and most S/Ns began with 30, but some began with 31, 32, 33, etc. A refurbished D3100 began with 40, and that had just 50 actuations on the shutter.

DZ, if the warranty period is over it doesn't much matter, it's just any other camera now.
Though I keep hearing that Nikon won't even work on an import even for a fee!
That's getting pretty low!!! Good luck

That's because you shoot Canon. With Nikon if you have a gray market camera and you need repair they don't repair it.
