So, this happened last week. I've had Red bellied woodpeckers nesting in my backyard for the past couple of years. Last week I heard them making a real ruccous so I went out back with camera to see what was up. I arrived to find this European Starling in the woodpecker's nest and the woodpecker trying his hardest to get him out. The woodpecker did win this battle, but sadly ultimately the starling won out.

Wow Tracey, this is high drama indeed! Great documentation here, well done. It will be interesting to see if the it the interloper left some future dependents for the woodpecker to raise. Fun post, thanks.
Regards, Phil

ps I just went back and looked again. This is one of the coolest posts I've seen on UHH in five years. Thanks again.
