thank you, I sent mine in after about 7 months, then again a year later, and when I got it back it still did not work... I lost a lot of trust in their ability to repair things.

Hi Orrie,

FYI, the Nikon site only recommends the TC-14E III with the AF-S-200-500MM lens.

But I have heard of shooters stacking two of them to get double the range.

Not a cheap option, but neither is the 80-400MM with a teleconverter.

Based on what I read on UHH I conclude that there must be a wide variation in the quality of Tamron 150-600 lenses. I have had mine for a year now and I love it. I have tested it at 600mm against my Nikon 300 2.8 with the TC20EIII and they are pretty much on a par. At 420 however the Nikon blows the Tamron out of the water, and of course ditto at 300mm. However the Tamron is lighter and more flexible. The Tamron on my D750 takes sharp pictures with very good IQ.

Tamron 150-600 @550mm D750, f9, 1/400

you need to recheck the chart, the TC-14E III is the only one that you are able to use with auto focus with cameras that have an internal focus motor, the TC-17 and TC-20 may be used with manual focus, but be aware that as with any lens, when you use a teleconverter, you will lose light and sharpness, the larger the teleconverter, the softer the photo.

Yes, but...

I would think that the purpose of a 500MM lens would be to shoot sports, wildlife and birds.

Very seldom time for manual focus. That is why I said what I said.

The larger converters also tend to give poorer results overall.
