Now retired, I've taken up photography as another interest. I've been learning and practicing as I go. Last week I took these bird shots. They may not be the best, but I was excited enough to post them. I'd welcome any comments or feedback. Thanks!

You are so lucky to be near a place that has such a variety of birds. All we seem to have are sparrows. Me jealous.

You must have been a Doctor when you were working because you are still "learning and practicing as you go". :)

People will look at bird shots and think that it's easy until they try it. You must have been a fine doctor because your off to a very good start. How long of a lens are you using? When and if you get tired of birds around the house don't forget that there are owls, hawks, and other fish to fry out there, Enjoy, I sure do. BTW, nice series and welcome to the forum!

Nice set, keep up the good work. I did the same thing when I decided to retire in November 2012. I had been away from photography for about 20 years (film) so the digital world was quiet a revelation to me. just started doing bird photography a couple of years ago.

I've always wondered why we go to someone who is "practicing" medicine.

Thanks for the kind words. I used a sigma 150-500 lens. Yes, anxious to capture other birds, although I do have some good mallard shots.

Yes, we do have a nice variety of birds here in Indiana. And I'm lucky that I have a very nice nature park nearby to take pictures!

Love how you captured the female Cardinal. If you want to attract a larger variety of birds, try putting up a couple of suet feeders with bought or home made suet. Place the feeders in the best light possible for time of day you will be shooting, then wait-----and wait. I see we both use the Sigma 150-500. If you put a check in the box "store original" we will be able to see all the beautiful details.

I've got some ideas to try from this thread and another one.
