Nik is a plugin I believe and requires a host program. Weindows 10 plays nice with my setup of Photoshop.

Since Windows 10 has been out for less than a year, I think I'd have to look your reply askance. "Alecky", for sure, but smart?

The components can be run as stand alones, but the method is kind of strange. Find the executable file in Windows Explorer and drag the image file on top of it.

Hopefully there is an easier way, although as designed it works with a number of host programs.

Nik apps work as stand alones

But you can lose files

Look here (scroll down) for tips etc
http://edknepleyphoto.com/2013/06/15/using-the-nik-collection-in-a-stand-alone-mode/

On my Win 10 machine: Uning Siver Efex as the example.
click these in this order:

This PC

Local Disk C

Program Files

Google

NIK collection

Silver Efex

Silver Efex Pro 2 64bit (click, two files appear)

double click on line that says Application

Siver Efex opens
Upper left you have "file" you get three choices Open Image, Save image as, Quit

As stated, you click the wrong thing you can lose your image, so make a copy and work with that.

typo, should have said a "little less than". Besides, I have been retired for almost 9 years now. I have to check the lower right corner of the desktop to see what month it is. My weekends now start on Jan 1 and end Dec 31.

You should see some of the typos that I catch before I hit send.

My fingers and brain seem to communicate less and less as the years go by.
