Back on New Year's Eve, 12/21/15, while on a hike, I came across a bobcat. It was hiding under a fallen eucalyptus tree. I was able to get several very nice shots before I left. Those shots each showed a distinctive marking on its nose -- three spots in a diagonal line.

Yesterday, I was out hiking in the same, general area, and came across a bobcat. This time, the cat was out in the open, and it was not keen on letting me get very close. (Very often, I can get quite close to these beautiful cats.) I did get a shot that revealed the distinctive pattern of spots on its nose. It was a match.

The cat moved off into a heavily wooded area, and I gave chase. The light, in those woods, was quite dappled, and I couldn't get the exact shots I prefer, but I made do.

The three spots on the nose can be seen.

I should add that this is not the only bobcat I've found and photographed in this spot. The literature says that females will not share territory with other males, but a male's territory will overlap with several females.

OK, you got me there ... I was expecting that maybe you were a contractor and wanted to show us some pics of your trusty old friend the skid-steer loader! Nice pictures of a very elusive animal :)

I've only had one encounter with a bobcat over the years unfortunately as they are awesome critters. I was sitting on a stump on the edge of a clear cut hunting deer many years ago. As the sun came up and the temperature started to warm I found myself with heavier than normal eye lids. That changed when I heard a little rustling from behind. A rabbit came past me in a blur with a bobcat only a few feet behind. Had I been fast enough I could have stuck a leg out and tripped them both as they came past me. End result was a few seconds later from the sounds the rabbit made it was clear mr. cat had caught up.
Great shots and thanks for sharing.

Great shots, have to wonder who was looking at who. That's one animal that's still on my bucket list.
