I've got a 6D and had a few Dell coupons, so made a quick order today for the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM pancake lens.

Now, I cannot wait to shoot with it, possibly this week end.

Thus, I put the cart before the horse out of necessity and frugality. What would you shoot if you were me?

Thanks, Blurryeyed. That's what has me suddenly excited, just did not want to miss a trick, and keep my eye out for the right shots.

Since your location is shown as "in hiding" there was no way to know.

With a 40mm you would have great opportunities at the National Historical Park. Just keep the camera level and move around to get the best compositions.

Thanks very much, Bill. It's funny, I was thinking of retracing my steps from last week when I went to the Dracut State Forest and Shaw Farm.

Here are a few shots at 70mm, using the Tamron 70-200:

Being able to get within a foot of my subject would change how I would think of macro-type shots, which the forest might yield. Then I was thinking, what about street shots, maybe I would be better off downtown, not trying to compare one lens with the other. So I am excited with my minds travelling into possibilities.

It'll be my first such fixed lens, so as you point out, means walking closer to the subject. Often, I have been backing up, falling off icebergs and such, trying to get more into the frame. :)

I never quite understood that lens. Is what makes it special it's physical size?

Can I ask...why you ask this?

What are you really asking (since you can point your camera in any direction and pull the trigger and it will make a picture) with any lens you have bolted to the front.

I have this lens and I really like it. When I went to Gettysburg PA, I used it for indoors and outdoors as there's a lot of scenery to photograph. I'm sure you'll find something, just take a walk outside and let your eyes be the viewfinder.
