A friend recently shared her Photos album with me and I can view it using Photos on my Mac just fine, but I would like to export the pictures to my hard disk to load into Lightroom.
Is that possible since it's not my album? I can select all the pictures in the album, but all the export options are greyed-out.
Or, should I just ask my friend for a zip file of all the photos?
This is my first look at Photos and I'm not impressed. It's definitely geared towards quick snapshots and sharing on-line, not meant for serious archiving and editing. Very very glad that I'm making the switch to LR.

A friend recently shared her Photos album with me ... (

you are correct, photos is a lousy program, in my opinion. when she sent you an album, the photos in the album may not be individual photos, but a single collection of several photos, therefore, you would not be able to export them. you would be better off having your friend send them to you individually, or send the individual photos to you on a thumb drive.
Actually it is possible. You first of all have to import them into your own Photos library, export them to the hard drive and then add them to the LR catalogue once they've been exported.
Rather a roundabouts way of doing thing, but it's possible.
The pictures are now safely in LR so hopefully I won't have to look at Photos again for a long time. I am a big Apple fan in both my professional and personal computing lives, but in this case LR is far far superior.
