If I could afford them, I'd be buying them. I currently use 4 Zeiss lenses and have one on another camera. I love them. Again, it's just the price for the Nikon versions. Though I do adapt the 4 I have to work on my Nikons.

Thanks Bob, I used Zeiss lenses in my old Hasselblad and I loved them however I don't know if the same quality goes into the digital 35mm Zeiss lenses.

Juan, I use my Hasselblad lenses on my Nikons.

You might check to see if you can rent one of the Zeiss lenses and give it a try.

Try them on the camera - they looked bigger and felt heavier than comparable Canon equivalents when I was at the photo show the other weekend.

The Zeiss glass is far superior to anything in the Nikkor line. Tack sharp, great color rendition and beautiful bukeh.

They are pricey. But as I have said many times before--cameras come and go, lenses are forever.

I know Zeiss lenses and Ernst Leitz lenses are of excellent quality but Nikkor lenses have always satisfied my needs and that is what I use with my cameras.
Some of those Nikkor lenses come to mind, the 50mm f1.8, the 28mm f2.8, the 105mm f2.5 and the excellent 80-200 f4.5 zoom of the 70's among others.
Yes, Zeiss lenses are very good but I happen to be satisfied with what I have.

I have put together a 4 lens set of Zeiss ZF for my D810 --- the 21, 35mm f2.0, 50mm Makro, and 100mm Makro. Although I have (or, had) some of the best Nikon fixed and zoom lenses including the Holy Trinity, I'd guess I use one of the Zeiss 80% of the time. IF a person is comfortable with manual focus, fixed focal lengths, typically uses the focal ranges of the Zeiss lenses (21-135), and tends to shoot objects that don't move quickly then I highly recommend them for full-frame cameras. They are sharp; I strongly prefer their jrendering over Nikon's; their construction is superb; and, I like their physical sizes (if not the cost).

I shoot with two Voigtlander lenses on my F3 & F2. The pics that come from those two lenses have a Leica quality look to them. I have no complaints about either of them.

You should go YOURSELF onto the B&H web site and read the reviews. On utube just type in comparison stuff. Yes, it is that easy to compare for YOURSELF. Go ahead, I know you can do it. God bless and keep on shooting until the end.

These are very good but we are at the minutia level where you really are not going to see differences unless you are printing a 40 x 60 and up and then you would have to look hard BUT.. equipment is just a part of the image and in my opinion highly over rated. These other aspects, subject matter, light, composition, story trump gear every time.

When you look at a compelling image you are likely drawn to it because of incredible light, wonderful composition, superb tonal qualities, perhaps even caught its its emotion, do you ask, was that taken with a Nikon or Ziess? Beginners often do, professionals likely never.

If I was a published and highly respected Photographer with an entourage and work list that is booked until 2020, I might invest in Zeiss but even then, there are no guarantees that it would produce better results.

My only experience with Zeiss is with their laser rangefinders. They are the best of the best.

What is it about the (color?) rendering you prefer on your D810 -- for example, if possible, 100mm vs. Nikkor 105mm G?

I notice you have no 85mm; do you prefer the Nikkor counterpart?
