Folks what bird is this

A couple of years ago on a whale watch I took this photo but I can't
identify this bird, and help appreciated.

I would call it an immature gull, probably a herring gull. Where was the picture taken? Location can be a major clue.

The picture was taken in late September 2014 off the coast of Cape Cod, Maine.

Could be an immature Thayer's Gull - both are very similar and the immatures are hard to tell apart.

Then most likely an immature Ring-billed gull, second choice immature Herring gull. Basically identical except for size; Herring gull is larger at 24" length where the Ring-billed is only about 18". Theyer's gull is similar but, according to NG Society book, it is a west coast bird.

Oh, right - costal Maine - most likely a first stage Herring Gull.

Looks like a Seagull to me!! :lol:

Just a small point, Cape Cod is in Massachusetts. Excellent photo however.
