Does anyone have a 2-printer set-up at home? What do you use? My Canon Pixma printer is 15 years old and has decided that it is just too old for this printing stuff.
I am thinking of a Canon Pro-100 for photo prints, but what to do about general use printing?
I think it depends a lot on just what your general purpose printing requirements are. I have 2 general purpose printers I use. I have a 10 year old Lexmark black & white printer I use for typed projects only and a Canon Pixma MX922 that I use as a printer, copier, fax machine. I have had the Canon about a year & a half, and it does color print projects(non photo) well. If I want a picture printed I use a local photo print company or Costco.
Shouldn't be a problem at all just be sure to select the printer you use for general purpose day to day use as your primary. I have a Pixma Pro 100 and a HP 200 Pro Color LaserJet printer that I use as my general primary printer.
I have an older HP Photosmart 6980 used for routine printing as the default printer in computer and a Canon Pixma Pro-100 for my photos. The Canon is a great addition for printing my photos.

Canon 1000 for prints and a Canon MG 7520 for general printing. Low cost and excellent quality from both. The 1000 does the best I've ever seen. Had a Pro 900 and was I upgraded.
I have an Epson Work Force WF-7620 and a Canon Pixma Pro-1. I use the Epson for everyday printing and for scanning. It only has four cartridges. I keep it set to print black and white and change to color only if I need it. Save ink. I don't need to have e-mails, etc. printed with color. I often use it to print out photos to see how they might look when printed out before I use the Canon for the final printout.
I use the Pro-1, which has 12 cartridges, just for photographs.
Last fall, I had four inkjet printers up and running, Two Epson photo printers and two old HP's for documents.
Then the HP that I used most often, stopped printing black text. Other colors no problem. New cartridges and lots of tinkering didn't fix.
I junked out that printer and tried to replace it with the other HP, only to learn that HP didn't offer a windows 7 driver for that printer.
That seemed odd, since it run fine on the other windows 7 computer.
I decided it was time for a replacement and bought a wireless Brother laser printer with a scanner. It prints only shades of gray, but scans to file in color. Now if I need a document with colors, I'll let my Epsons handle it.
I've already noticed a cost to operate, savings.

I use an Epson R3000 (replaced by P600) for photos and a HP 8600 for general work. I also have a HP M201DW laser as I don't particularly like inkjet documents or color laser printers. Works for me. YMMV. Best of luck.
13, 44 ,& 64 inch Epsons, and a dead $19.99 Canon, I use for shipping labels. Got a new $29.99 Canon, in the white truck yesterday.
I use an Epson 3880 for my photo printing and an HP for my other printing needs. It works out well.
