Young woman with a bike, oh and she has tattoos and she is wearing her cap backwards

This is one of those snap in an instant as someone walked past shots. They either work or they don't. Since I had just downloaded the Nik software (thanks for the heads up Steve) I thought I would try it out but I confess to being a little disappointed so I went back to PS which I find much more versatile. Though to be fair that may just mean I need to spend some time with the Nik stuff to be able to get the best out of it. So this is all PS layers and masks and dodging and burning though I did steal the frame from one of the Nik presets. Any and all thoughts and suggestions welcome.

That's a great street photo. Certainly good timing on your part. The expression, or lack of expression on her face coupled with her appearance says volumes and you captured it well. For me, I really do like the Nik software but it does seem to add grain which sometimes I don't want. It is very versatile and I consider a must have tool in my toolbox.

Is she actually wearing clothing or is that a tattoo as well?

Peter, you have captured her well. I find myself going back and forth between Nik software and PhotoShop. Takes some practice but once you get familiar with Nik software you will like it more.

Was your subject under a shaded area? I ask because of the chin and neck area.

Other than some slight haloing around the cap you have done well here Peter. I even like the frame. I would only suggest lowering the brightness of the letters behind her, maybe to the shade of the top one almost out of the frame.

Thanks, I don't do much street but it I am beginning to get hooked on it. Especially living in a tourist town you do get all sorts of characters wandering around.

Hmm she was wearing clothing because if she wasn't I figure there would have been a whole lot of photographers there first, blocking my view. But I think that was why the instinctive grab for a pic, the tattoos, and the dress really made her stand out.

Thanks Dave, I was quite happy with this pic in the end even though Frank has correctly picked a couple of nits which I have since fixed. I will give Nik a good looking over and no doubt aspects of it will probably sneak into my workflow. And the answer to your question is that she was not in shadow, she was the cause of the shadow. Unfortunately for photography (though fortunately for my lifestyle) at this time of year we get week after week of clear blue skies, and 27 degrees C. So plenty of light, but very often, high in the sky sun. That was the car here. Sun was high to my right and somewhat behind her so her face cast the shadow. Pain in the proverbial sometimes but it is the way it is.

Catch you soon.

Thanks Frank, glad you like it. I am not normally a frame person but this one kinda suited and I liked the idea of pinching it from a Nik preset. Well spotted with the halo and the need to pull back the lettering. I had been working on the pic for quite some time and got a little lazy near the end. So I have followed your suggestions and I agree its a better result.

Many thanks for the feedback.

Nice capture. Good going on getting rid of the slight halo on this edited shot

Thanks for the feedback. I really dislike halos and it was, as I said, a little laziness on my behalf not to have fixed it before the first post. This one was bit fiddly to get rid of but I am much happier with the result and it was worth the time.

Catch you soon.
