I just got one of these beauties for my Nikon d5000 which inflated found out isn't compatible for autofocus. Is there any type of lens adapter I can get to make it work?

Not that I know of. If it is not an AF-S lens you need the focus motor built into the camera to get it to auto focus.

You are limited to lenses with built in focus motors as PAR4DCR stated....They have to say AFS in their descriptions.

Thanks for all the replies. I've been using manual focus which is fine since I'm usually the one taking pics but sometimes when I'm off on a solo adventure and wanna take some self shots, it really hard to take a good one but I'll find a way. Thanks again

I'd say 60.
I have difficulty even with focus confirmation and focus peaking.

a d7200 would be a good lens adapter

You use your fingers and manually focus it. The other 2 options are to use a higher f/stop to increase depth of field or to get an AF lens. Nikon has the old manual lens (which you evidently got and is no longer in production), an auto focus AF lens which is still available and an AFS lens which is what the 3xxx and 5xxx (yours) cameras require to auto focus. That lens will work but you MUST manually focus it.

true but the lens possibly would still be manual depending on which 50mm it is.

Before you buy get a score card of what works with what. It is quite convoluted otherwise. Yes they mostly all mount (Mostly is operative as not all do) but they do not all operate as you would think they should.
If you have a question ask here on UHH prior to purchase and describe the lens and camera body and there are plenty who can help with compatibility.

"What is wrong with focusing manually?" Well, nothing wrong with it as I see it except for non stationary subjects.
