Starting today and going through the weekend NC police will be cracking down on speeders. Beware!

As crazy as it sounds, The cops should have to obey the speed limits, too.

True, but catching speeders would be difficult. I can hardly drive anywhere locally without seeing someone being given a ticket. That's why I like cruise control.

About time!
I am always amazed at the number of normally law-abiding citizens who get behind the wheel and think nothing of violating the law. This is not confined to speeding. They run stop signs, red lights, follow too closely, text while driving....you name it, they do it. Would any of these people go to Walmart and shoplift? Of course not.....that would be illegal!

In North Carolina it is legal to drive 15 mph under the speed limit and not be charged with impeding traffic.Think I will

Of course cops have to obey the speed limits too. As an ex cop I can tell you that in my opinion most do. Of course not all do but when we don't you can bet some citizen with his cell phone will be calling the station to report car number 527 was speeding just to get a cup of coffee and a doughnut. Believe me the police are under as much or more scrutiny than most citizens are. Let's not also forget that in EVERY profession there are people who break the law thinking that THEIR profession gives them a permit to do unlawful things.

One more thing: There are times when a police officer speeds as fast as he can to get to the scene of a crime. A bank robbery in progress or a burglary in progress are two examples. If the policeman turns on his lights and siren he will alert the criminal he is coming and miss the chance of catching the criminal. So police officers get there as quickly but quietly as possible.

Have you seen a cop speeding? If you didn't call it in then why not if it bothers you?

I have sympathy for police these days because they are under such scrutiny, and everyone has a camcorder in their pocket. I'd rather have the police "speeding" at 60 mph than driving right behind me at 55 mph for ten miles.

Would be nice too, if they used their turn signals!
I was behind one that never used them one time.

We had a disaster here about ten years ago involving two state troopers. They were heading west around sunset and made a quick U-turn. Because of the setting sun, they didn't see the large delivery truck. It ran into the car, killing both troopers. I know the sister of one of them and the driver of the truck. Sad situation all around.

Especially the part of "They run stop signs, red lights, follow too closely, text while driving" These are the real killers out there.

Also amazing how many have fish emblems on their cars. Where did Jesus say "put thy pedal to thy metal" ?

I drive 95 from Long Island to CT. and R.I. quite frequently. If I wre to keep to the speed limit, enen the 18 wheelers would pass me. Most drive 75mph.

Oh boy, would I have fun there! I normally drive a couple miles below the speed limit. Do not want to lose my CDL! Where I live, if I want to get anywhere, I have at least 8 -10 miles to get there. The speed limit is 55. I get passed a lot! But I don't care! There was a time in this little town I live in would ticket anyone just one mile above the speed limit. We all knew it and obeyed the sign. Could always tell when a new person went through! And since we are on the only east/west corridor to Stevens Pass (ski resort) there would be a lot of tickets until folks got smart.
