After seeing that this program was free and reading a little about it, I have downloaded and installed it. It doesn't show up in program files or on the desktop. Is it a standalone program, or do you have to have another program to use it?

Thanks, Steve

Yeah, I did not see it in programs either. It does show in PS Elements though. I was able to try the Dfine with an image opened in Elements, a box with direct linking was on the desktop in Elements when opening the file.

It's meant to be used from Lightroom, Bridge or Photoshop.

Thanks, DG. I have Photoshop cs2 version 9. It is not showing up when I select "about plugins" from the help menu. Is there something else I should be doing?

I'm using PsCC on a Mac and the plugins show up under the Filter menu.

Go to the download site on Google and select Help and then "licensing and compatibility". It lists the versions of software that the plugin suite works with. For PS it looks like CS4 and up

I believe it requires "host software" I just installed mine after selecting Aperture

Thanks everyone. Looks like I don't have anything that it will work with. Might as well delete it to save disk space. I don't do much post processing, so have not invested any money in newer programs.

There are a few programs that can host it I am pretty sure affinity photo supports it (mac).

Recently a beta program was set up for a windows version of Affinity Photo. You may find the free beta will work with nik plugins.

In PSE, it's under "filters / Nik collection" (nice gift)

Have discovered that Nik will work with Serif PhotoPlus X7. Have something to experiment with.

Thanks all.

Suggest you save your download file in case you get software it will work with in the future.
Same for Picassa download and save, they are not going to update it any more and will eventually disappear from the download site.

If the software contains standard Photoshop plugins (.8bf extension) you could see if the individual plugins function within the latest version of GIMP, which is an open source image editor. Although I haven't specifically tried NIK plugins with GIMP, I've had success with numerous other Photoshop-based plugins in GIMP.

The Nik collection works fine with Affinity Photo but there are a few extra steps to get everything working.

Install Video

Get Nik Collection here (mac or windows)

Hopefully these two links are useful and appropriate.

For potential Affinity Photo windows users this link may be useful

In lightroom you need to go to photo edit in for most of the plugins. For the HDR go to export with preset. In photoshop it under filter.
