https://plus.google.com/+NikCollection/posts/AFGsG2Di7EKNik collection is free starting today.
My response:
This is only good news if updates resume and the applications maintain a level of sophistication more than just a set of one-click filters.
Maybe it's time to really get serious about figuring out the On1 software.
Interesting! The NIK collections has been good. I've enjoyed using it. I especially like using HDR Effects Pro.
I read many months ago the Google bought NIK so they could use technology that's was in it for their own Google applications. It was never clear they wanted to make a business out of plug-ins for Photoshop! Google and Adobe have never seemed to be good friends!
My guess is that updates are over.
If you don't already own this collection, now is the time to add it to your tool box. In my own estimation, NIK Silver Efex is the best in class, and NIK Viveza and Color Efex are not far behind. At one time, this whole collection cost hundreds of dollars, so to get it for free is unbelievably fortuitous.

And it will probably work for a long time even if they don't update or add to it.
I have used these filters for many years . I decided to download them again for back up in case something changes , and they are free now . Hard to believe a big company would do that now a days . Tommy

I agree, unbelievable, Pretty sure there's a catch coming somewhere down the road...although I certainly hope not.

Don't forget you need to have Adobe Photoshop CS4 or later. Nikcollection will not work as a standalone program. Darn it!

Thanks for the information, Guys.
Paint Shop Pro 9 for Windows can be downloaded here:
http://www.oldversion.com/windows/paint-shop-pro-9-01It says free download but we all know this may mean a trial version. However, I don't see any mention of a trial anywhere. Suck it and see I guess. :(

NIK works fine with Lightroom.

Are you sure about that? I just D/L and installed it. The install found PSE11 and installed into the C:\Program Files\Google\Nik Collection\ folder, and the standalone apps are in there and you can run them alone.
It also put links to that folder in my PSE 11 folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Plug-Ins\Google
I copied that Google folder with the links in it to my CS2 plug-ins folder:
C:\Users\Jack\AppData\Roaming\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins\Google
and now CS2 runs all the nik filters. I played with it and it all seems to work, keeping in mind I never used this stuff before so not sure if everything is there or not, but I think it is all there and working correctly. I also opened one of the standalone apps and it had a file menu item allowing you to open a file in the stand alone editor.
