A friend has the Canon 70D when the CLEAN SENSOR function is enacted, one feels the vibration through the camera body.

With our D7200, there is NO feeling of vibration. When enacting CLEAN NOW on the D7200, 'cleaning sensor' DOES appear on the screen

With the D7200, etting up for CLEAN SENSOR ON STARTUP AND SHUTDOWN, no wording appears as the camera turns on, nor is there any vibration felt.

IS THIS NORMAL FOR A D7200?

There's no vibration in my D800E either. Whenever I have dust on the sensor the internal cleaning doesn't do much and I clean it manually.

Just double checked, on my D7100, no vibration when cleaning the sensor.

I have always had my D7100 set to clean on startup & shutdown - no info displayed saying it is being cleaned, other then the indicator it is on in the setup menu.

FYI - be sure to hold your camera level when turning on/off so anything shaken off falls to the bottom and not toward the top, sides, or front where it can fall right back onto the sensor.

My D7200 is the same - no noticeable vibration and no indication on startup/shutdown.

Never noticed any vibration on my D7200 when sitting down. Hmm... Maybe Nikon's isn't as aggressive.

I think that's the better question. I doubt that shake is normal in the Canon. Some Canon users will have to tell us. If the sensor is shaking so hard that it's making the camera vibrate, that doesn't sound good for the sensor.

You can fill a slight vibration in the Canon 70D and low noise (audio) is emitted.

Hi J45. Maybe the problem is that your canon needs a tune up to run smoothly. Why not try changing the spark plugs and put in a set of new wires. I have a couple of Nikons with self cleaning feature and have never notice vibration while using the cleaning feature. I would think that the cleaning feature should be a very high frequency vibration to be effective. Otherwise just shaking the camera would accomplish the same thing. Those are just my thought, but someone smarter than me should answer your question. Leon

Nope. You're wrong. I have two and a t2i. They all do the same thing. Better to keep silent and let people suspect you are a fool than to post and remove all doubt. You could start your journey back from Idiotville by reading the first line of the OP.

Morning Jim Bob. Now that you have insulted me, do you feel better. If so then no problem, if not, then it might be time to take your medications again. Leon

Not sure, but I think that if you put your ear to the LCD you will hear a high pitched sound. That's the cleaner at work.

Didn't hear anything but I am confident from all the answers that it's working normally.

Perhaps the Canons use a totally different method.

Won't worry about my friend's T1i and 70D - that's his problem. :-)

Thanks all for your replies.

I feel great. And it has nothing to do with insulting you. On the other hand, it didn't hurt.

Can you see it now? All over the world, Nikon users are going to be putting their ears to their cameras listening for the cleaning function, grinning when they hear it.

Canon service centers will be getting complaints if they can't feel or hear the cleaning function.

Other DSLR users (do they exist?) will wonder what their cameras are supposed to do.
