My granddaughter Kammy is always a willing subject. Now she is into posing and expressions my cell phone tells that story well. Here are a few I took with the new back ground. She was about 10' from the backgroud, speedlight w/shoot through umbrella at camera right and reflector on left and light on background. Still working on getting the color right so tried black and white on a couple.

Nice series!
I like the way you captured her.

She is precious and that last one is my fav! Full of personality!
The 2nd is my favorite. The lighting catches her face nicely as she turns and her expression is great. It looks as though we just walked in the room and she is happy to see us :)

Thanks. I've been working on lighting for the past year making strides. Still struggling with PP though.
I am partial to alot of color, but I like 2 & 3.
Beautiful model and you caught some great poses and expressions. Nicely done!

Lyn,
Are you sure your Key light was camera right? To me, it looks like it was camera left, or you had one strong reflector???
I think the color in #1 looks pretty good, but you really need to light up her eyes a bit more. The darkness of them makes it look like her eyes are set back a little (recessed back into her head). If they were a little brighter (better lit), I think they would actually pop a little. The lighting looks like Rembrandt or very close. It looks a little hot on her camera left forehead - another reason why I suspect your key light was from camera left.
You have good separation from the background, so your background light is kind of working. In all the images, I find the dark horizontal strip about neck/shoulder level running behind her to be less than attractive and quite distracting. Once again, I think you need to diffuse the background light more, so it more uniformly lights up the space right behind her and to each side to remove that dark strip area.
I think the B&W shots look generally good and I'm not sure which I prefer - color or B&W. I might add that in #2 &3 you should have her head (actually her entire body) turned more to camera right (and her eyes follow her nose) so there is not so much white of her eyes showing, which is not considered good in portrait type shots. It makes her look unrelaxed and also detracts from the beauty in her face and expression.
Good try, and keep practicing and post more resulting images in the future. Thank you, Lyn.
Best Regards,
Tom
