With this image I attempted to create a specific mood - the feeling of being lost in a lonely, cold and hostile place, with night approaching quickly.

Certainly has the nighttime, cold, and lonely feel. I don’t feel it’s hostile, and don’t feel lost as I spent a lot of my life outdoors. Good job 2c4. Just the right amount of tones for the feel

The perspective and bare trees do make me feel a bit uneasy and alone. I'm not sure about the toning, though. For me, the lower part is perhaps a little more inviting (warmer) than would be if completely blue.

Thank you, Frank. Always good to hear from you!

By "hostile" I was referring to the nightmarish appearance of the highly angular, disorienting branches, in conjunction with the towering effect of the trees. To me, this particular view comes across more unsettling than comforting. I suppose different experiences can sometimes lead to very different interpretations of almost any particular image.

I suppose you're right, Linda. However, shifting the warmer tones to cooler may lose the sense of the setting sun and the threat of impending darkness. Perhaps shifting them away from yellow and toward magenta would be a good compromise. I'll need to experiment further. Thank you for your thoughtful input.

While I certainly get the feeling of towering and overpowering trees and I agree that if the branches had been angular they would have conveyed a nightmarish feeling. However I don't actually feel these branches are angular in fact they are all rather gently curved as are the trunks themselves. Certainly there is a chaotic interplay of branches and twigs but no sense of the jaggedness that I think perhaps you were aiming for. But an interesting shot nevertheless.

I don't see much emotion conveyed at all.

Sorry to have disappointed you, jaymatt. Do you have any advice on what I could have done for a more effective image? Based on what I wanted to convey, what should I have done differently?

Probably nothing, after viewing the other comments. Apparently, I'm not particularly motivated today--it's just me. :-D

It's a good Sunday to just be, but I find when I'm not motivated it's the best time to get out there! S-

I agree, but there's a NASCAR race this afternoon, so . . . .

Not wanting to make any sudden movements I slowly reached for the camera, but by then she was done with me and decided to move on. S-
