85mm is like a 110mm on a D5100. I had one and sold it for my D5300. You might want to try a nifty fifty mm which is like a 67mm on a DX body, just my 2 cents worth. Enjoy whichever lens you decide to use.

I have a Nikkor 85mm f1.8 in excellent condition. . Purchased in January, 2016, from Roberts Camera in Indianapolis. US warranty. I used it about five times. It takes excellent pictures, but my interests are taking me in a macro direction, so I am looking to move on to a 105mm+ macro lens.
