I am submitting two features in this group. My first love, my lovely grandchildren, and secondly the historic "social endeavor" of the coal era of northeastern Pennsylvania. If you would like to see more, original photos, you can see them at this website:

They were constructed by the coal baron's to house the miners and their families. The miners paid rent directly to the coal company. Any supplies that the miners used were purchased from the coal company store. Every aspect of the miner's lives was to put their earnings back into the pockets of the coal company. Over time, this place has been used, not only by the miner's families of the coal companies, but by graffiti artists and even fire fighting exercises (since concrete will only burn at extremely high temperatures). I personally used the site for my own fire training back in the '70's. thanks for looking!
This is a fascinating structure and apparently it has a lot of history. It serves well as a photo subject and I really like your shots. Your grandchildren look to be real charmers! Very nicely done.
Interesting pictures and thank you for the website.
I am a 'coal cracker' although I left the area in 1962.
Still have family in the 'valley" but don't get back there often enough.
I remember some of the dilapidated structures in Scranton when they were still occupied.
Very good and interesting captures, Dziadzi! I'd love to get up that way again to take some pictures. I took many of Centralia many years ago; quite a fascinating place!
