These photos were taken at the Viera Wetlands in mid afternoon. I used a Nikon D300 to take the first 2 and a Nikon D300S for the last one. Only Lightroom 3 was used to enhance them. I would really like a honest critique on these photos. Thanks, Arnold

I LOVE the Roseate Spoonbill. The rest are well done especially for mid afternoon sun, but that is my favorite.

I like the Glossy Ibis. I've been trying for a long time to get a nice close up like that. They are usually very skittish, and I have a hard time getting that detail.

Tami,
Predominantly southern water birds. All of these were painted by John James Audubon when he lived and worked in Florida and Louisiana at different times. These are part of the reason that all photographers need to be conservationists and environmentalists as much as we can.

I was born and raised and remain in NY here we protect the piping plovers which to the dismay of some manhattanites who come to eastern long island can cause a beach to be closed. Nature is definately not a inconveinance and needs to be preserved and portrayed for all to see and recognize for their beauty and contribution to natures cycle of life

Your use of a darker, contrasting background in the first photo was effective is accentuating the delicate white plumage of the bird.

For similar reasons the lighter background helped properly display the darker colored bird in photo #2

Nice bokeh on shot photo #3.

Excellent shots! Try as I may, I still have not captured many birds as well as yourself? Do you mind if I ask what lens and focal length you were using? Also, were these cropped and enlarged?

You did some very nice work there, my compliments.

This is a response to Mark's inquiry.

Focal length: #1 & #2 were 750mm (eqiv. 35mm) #3 was 420mm (eqiv. 35mm)

Crop from original size:
#1 28%
#2 21%
