Hello fellow members. I just pull the trigger and purchase the Nikon 105 MM 2.8 Macro lens. What are some of your experience with this lens. I currently shoot with the D-7000 planning to upgrade soon. Either 7200 or a full frame. Let m know thanks.

I have one, many of those in the macro section on this site have one and you can see their results there. You won't be disappointed. I understand they are good for portraits too. I use mine on a D7000 too.

Spectacular combination, my 105 is paired with a D7100 and they play very nice together. The world of the small will play a much bigger role in your photography,,. if your experience mirrors mine and others that shoot this combination. Unless you already own a Ring Light and LED Panel I predict more gentle GAS attacks will follow.

I have that lens, its a great lens. I have used it a few times for portrait work. It pairs well with my D800, I also have a D7000 as a backup body. IN looking at my metadata, I've never used that lens on my D7000 however.

I shoot with the 105 on my D600 and have excellent results. Great lens for macro as well as other types.

great lens. when you upgrade, consider a refurbished d750, great camera, as is the d7200

Did you buy a new Nikkor 105G (A-F + VR), or the older Nikkor 105D (A-F but no VR)?

That's a classic lens. I got one used for my D7xxx, and now use it on a D750.

I use the 105 2.8 macro. Doubt that you will see negative comments about the lens; and you won't be disappointed with it.

Jerry, I am glad I read your post as I see you use your 105 on your DX and FX bodies. I have a D7000 and a D750 (now out for a shutter recall) and so I could use the 105 on both. On the D7000 it would become a 158mm if my math is correct. ~FiddleMaker

I love my 105! I shoot it on a 7100. I bought it specifically for macro and close up photography but quickly learned that it is great for portraits. Really sharp. It's always in my bag. Enjoy!

Focal length of the lens doesn't change when used on a DX format. What changes is the field of view...
