I am still reading the instructions and taking pictures. Can anyone assure me that I will be able to stop action with my Nikon.....do fantastic closeups, portraits, blurr the foreground or the background. I used a 35 mm Minolta yrs. ago when I was having fun taking pictures. This camera is so different.
Thank you

You don't have nearly the artistic control with that P&S as you would a DSLR, but pay close attention to the scene mode functions and you should be able to get it to do most of what you would like it to.

I'll Ditto what MT said. Read carefully about your different "scene" modes. You'll have one for "sports" which will give you the fastest shutter speed possible under your shooting conditions. You'll have a "portrait" mode which won't favor the shutter speed so much. That's just like you would have done with your Minolta.
You have a + or - exposure adjustment that will allow you to make your picture up to 4X brighter or 4X darker than normal, should you ever want to.
You have buttons instead of dials, but it really isn't toooo different from your old camera. You'll get used to it if you want to.

After coffee this morning, I came to check for responses. You guys are so incouraging. I worked hard to get a closeup of a piece of jewelry. I had trouble focusing and I did have it on the little icon for closeups but the little green indicator light went on and off several times and the focus keep changing without me doing it. I got one decent shot. I am not giving up so please don't give up on me. lol, no seriously.

I double checked my pictures; not too bad for a first try. I think I may be having some good times.
