I have used Canon's editor for several years with not a problem until today. I was converting to B&W and some thing happened and the pc messed up and I can not get my edit window to open again. I have removed DPP and reinstalled it with out any luck. I uninstalled every thing that come on the disk and reinstalled every thing again and still no luck. All of the other features seem to work as usual just can not get the edit window to open. Any one have some suggestion or similar problem? I need help because I use it more than PS.

What O/S do you have, and what version of DPP are you using?

It should be possible to fix this, but a few specific details may be needed. We might also upgrade you to the newest versions at the same time. What cameras do you have? Looks like a 7D, possibly others...

I have windows 7 and cameras are 60d and 7d. I have recently bought the 7D but it has been working alright with that version. Maybe you have mentioned that, I might need an update. I was editing pictures when it quit work, I had the edit menu open. I reinstalled the disk from my 60D. I do not have a disk for my 7d, but I could go online and get it.

Try the European download site, the US site is a mess: http://www.canon-europe.com/support/

Canon is steadily moving from DPP v3.x to DPP 4.x. They both work and can exist simultaneously, but DPP4 is improved. Both of your cameras are supported by both DPP3.x and DPP4.x.

I would recommend downloading and installing both, then using whichever you prefer.

It may not be actually a DPP issue, but some other issue that is causing the problem. May need to be diagnosed but the updates are worth doing. Are you using W732 or W764? Getting the right 32bit or 64bit things could make a difference, and something else may have broken that we don't know about yet.

Good luck.

I have download the updates and tried my other Canon cameras an no luck. I have not change the 32 or 64 bit but did color choice. It was working alright and I was changing some B&W and in the process ever thing went hay wire and I have done ever thing I can think of. I will try the latest DPP but I thought that was for full frames and you would not gain any thing with eos series. Thanks for you help. I will get my laptop out tomorrow and see if ever thing works with it.

These things can be quirky and tricky, and it may not even be DPP, but uninstalling and reinstalling can help. I've used DPP on W7-64 with no issues, now on W10-64, and have both DPP3.x and DPP4.x running happily side by side. You clearly have a problem, we just need to find out what it is and solve it! Hang in there! However, it would help if you tell us whether your Windows version is 32bit or 64bit. These little details can sometimes be the things that trip you up and cause this kind of problem.

The new version of DPP has nothing to do with full-frame or APS-C, it is just an updated version of the software. Initially it only supported either the newer cameras or the higher end cameras such as the 7D. I have a T3i, which was not originally supported with DPP4 but is now. The T2i is not supported yet, but I expect it will be in a few months.

This problem is most likely not a DPP issue, but something else that has become broken with your system. This kind of thing happens, it can just take a while to sort out. I fully expect that it can be solved.

Maybe going back to the last system save and see what happens.

It sounds like the register is screwed up

I have reinstalled three times and looked every place I can think of for the problem. After sleeping on it over night I am going to try to got a week or a month back and see what happens. I am beginning to think that it is in registry also. Thanks for the thoughts.

Do you know how to do a system restore in Windows 7? If not, maybe you know someone who does. You can restore your machine to a state before the incident occurred. Restores do not effect data, only programs. Remember, you must select a restore date from before the problem first occured.

I just logged back on this morning and sleeping on it last I decide to do a restore and did that this morning and problem solved. I had to go back a week as the system would not restore at 24 hours restore. I spent about 2hrs getting a restore point that would work. In the last 2 or 3 days Windows had made updates that took some time. I have had trouble before after updates have been installed.

A good reason to set Windows (in control panel) to "ask before downloading/installing updates" - that way you have some control over the update process.

I would save the pain of guessing and just call Canon tech support. Best in the world as far as I am concerned.

I glad everything is working again.

I would also think that a registry problem could be the cause. I had a problem with Nero that required a very deep cleansing of the registry on one machine to let it finish an install properly.

Good luck with everything.

HI old timer

I would like to add this as well Canon's own Uninstaller does not do a very good job it leaves a lot of left overs. Use a good program like Revo it's free I have been using it for many years I use the level 4 routine and get all the hold overs. Then i reinstall a clean one. But I don't think your problem was DPP as mentioned above you problem was in the registry. You did fine by going back a week.
