Words of wisdom

Shot this in Ocean city MD. Perhaps a scene many a parent would relate to. This little girl had so many questions about the sea, waves etc., which her father ever so patiently was trying to answer.

How did I do in capturing the scene ? As always your thoughts/inputs are much appreciated.

So sweet!

I really like that you caught them walking - and close to the water, though if there was a shot of her looking up at Dad, it'd have even more impact. I love the flotation device :)

Clarity and processing looks great IMO. Some preferences lean to more contrast; however for me, a moment like this is best served by gentle and soft.

The framing is a little tight. Do you have any more space to the right and bottom by chance?

Frank2013 has posted quite a few shots of children (some with adults) at the beach, many in b&w. If you'd like to take a look, here is his list of topics:

Thanks very much Linda for your detailed comments!
That float device caught my attention too... and also as you pointed if the child looked up at Dad...it would have been great. Agreed.

Posting the actual image here. I cropped it to get rid of the intruding shadows.

Capturing him in mid stride turning back to listen or speak gave your photo impact. Without that it is rather boring….no expression from the girl and not much from him. I know you did not crop tighter because of the that little wave….looks cool right? Wrong adds nothing at all to the subject of your photo which is the father daughter. That (the subject) is what you want to concentrate on displaying in the presentation. So eliminating distractions (wave) and unneeded space in this instance will help draw attention to your subject. There are really no other elements of value in this photo to give a sense of place or importance so just concentrate on them and get in tighter. Not too tight as you have heard the feet are a bit close to the bottom and that causes distraction or (grumbling in the brain if you will). You have to understand these are all my opinions, some you may find valid others not. All in all you have made a decent shot. If you ask here, you generally you will be told. I used you original image and the horizontal flip is a left right thing for me.

All very valid points !
Thank you for transforming that image and giving it a totally different perspective. I can see it has more visual impact now.

Question - Which image editor do you use ? I ask since it is an area that I am wrestling with right now :)

Much appreciated.

Looking good, Frank!

I clicked the download link and it's a tif file. Did it display as the thumbnail we see or did you load two files?

I guess it displayed. I forgot and saved it directly from Ps. I usually save to Lr and export jpeg then upload.
