A lawyer is a person, however in the legal profession he can not make mistakes. The lawyer could be subject to having to defend his mistakes.

My better half practices in a large firm, trust me on this, just because they have a license does not mean they don't make mistakes--and big ones, nor does it actually guaranty any real degree of competency in the area of your needs. Also, you'd be very mistaken if you believe that license is designed to protect you as a customer, because it doesn't.

There are plenty of recognized experts on legal and regulatory matters who never stepped foot in a law school. For instance, one of the top recognized experts in the US on Photographic Copyright Law is a past officer of, and current lecturer for the ASMP, and not a lawyer.

I disagree with the "worthless" part. I think OP is wanting to sharpen his thinking and UHHers experiences helps him do that. Stuff not thought of yet and changing the spin on stuff thought of. A most appropriate approch.

You hit the idea behind my posting. I never intended to turn this into a discussion of the (im-)perfections of the legal profession.

My clients are very sensitive about their venues (they're churches, OK?) being used for commercial sales and other less than "upstanding" activities. But they are OK with normal "journalistic use," for lack of a better term. So, I've decided to limit my copyright by contractually eliminating those uses (at least by me).

I'm not seeking legal advice from fellow UHH posters, just experiences that they might have in similar situations; my attorney will advise me on the law in New Hampshire and will work with me (read: lead the activity) in drafting the copyright agreements.

If you think I've wasted your time, I apologize; the question was a genuine search for information. If that apology isn't enough, tough.
