FEE error using the Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 AE on D7000

I just received my Rokinon F/1.4 85mm with the AE chip from B&H, put it on my D7000, and got an FEE error. Called B&H tech support and was told to turn off the camera, put the lens to f22 and restart it. Tried that and the screen said f5.6, and any other setting put the FEE error back on the screen. Tried this is M, A, and S modes with the same result.
B&H said it was probably a bad lens and sent me a return label and also is sending me a new one as an exchange. I called Rokinon but their only lens specialist is out until Monday and since I should get the replacement lens tomorrow, want to be sure how best to use the lens.
Any suggestions gratefully appreciated. I really want to try this lens as I am doing some portrait work and explore the range of this lens.
Thanks!

Hi- this was the page I first went to and tried the f22 aperture setting. The info screen first read f5.6, then FEE at all additional settings. This is why the B&H tech said to return it.

Take a look at Custom Settings Menu F6, that will let you tell the camera if you want to use the aperture ring or sub-command dial for aperture. You can find info on page 253 in your manual.

In almost all cases, you set or lock the aperture ring on the lens to f/22, (or the largest number - possibly f/32, then you are able to use the front command dial to set what aperture you wish to use - you may be able to also go into the camera menu's and tell the camera to allow you to use the command ill or the aperture ring on the lens.

Because when you set it to f/22, you were able to see the 5.6 setting and the FEE did not show up, you could have turned the command dial to switch the aperture on the lens as needed.

sounds as though everything is operating correctly.
leave the lens on f22, set iris with camera as usual.

Thanks for all the replies. I sent the lens back and will be getting the replacement today (B&H is very quick on this). Will let you know what happens and hopefully this time will be a winner. I'm supposed to take some family portraits this weekend and don't want to disappoint my wife and kids. Backdrops are up, lights are on the stands, and just need the lens. I can probably get as good results with my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 but when you get a new "toy" you just have to play with it.

Just take your time, put the lens on f/22 then use the front command dial to adjust aperture....

If you want to use the aperture ring instead, go into your camera menus and tell the camera to use aperture ring instead of command dial. Custom Command Settings F5 I believe.

Hi All. Got the replacement lens from B&H and the new lens works perfectly! Using the command dial to choose aperture and I'm finding out how great this lens is. Color rendition is perfect and looking forward to doing some portrait photography with it this weekend.
Thanks to all for your advice and suggestions.
