Just looking for insight and experience with the Eyefi Mobi Pro 2 Memory Card.
Quite expensive and am leary of spending $$$ on a New product, unless I have good feedback from experienced user of this Memory Card.

Dear Silverman,

I cannot provide you with any information about this or any other Wi Fi Smart cards, but I do have a question for you, based on my belief that there must be a valid reason for the continued existence of a device if it is still being manufactured and sold on the open market.

Under what circumstances do you find that it is better to work with these Wi Fi cards for storing images, whether still or video, as opposed to removing the card and inserting it into a Card Reader OR leaving it in the camera and instead plugging a mini-USB cable in with the other end into a computer?

Wi Fi transmission is slower than using either of the two alternatives listed above. Is it because you do U/W photography or operate at temperatures below freezing or in a climate where it rains most of the time?

Please elaborate. Thank you,

lev29 😎

Actually a more common reason for the WiFi connection is to be able to remotely control camera settings and exposures from your tablet or laptop. For example: qDslrDashboard or, http://www.heliconsoft.com/heliconsoft-products/helicon-remote/ that adds functionality that your camera by itself does not have.

Thanks for the URL; I'm sure Wi Fi has its uses for photography. Without mocking the OP, I still just don't understand WHY, with the exception of the conditions I listed, ON EARTH would anyone fool around with Wi Fi Smart Cards! There have been recent Hog discussions on this subject and no defender of their use has ever been able to justify their use.

On the other hand, they are selling. So there must be a reason (that is, if one believes in the principle of Capitalism.) This is why I'm asking the OP my question sincerely? WHY?

Thank you.

... ONLY for Nikon and Canon cameras, I just read, by the way.

Dear Silverman, br br I cannot provide you with a... (show quote)

Off the top of my head.....

Wedding, pictures on demand going to a monitor connected to a computer receiving the images from the camera. It would be impractical to constantly take the card out of the camera which could also lead to data corruption.

I've been using Eye-Fi cards since they first came out. A few months ago, I switched to the new Mobi cards, and I have no regrets. The old and new cards are incompatible, by the way. The only "negative" is the slow speed, especially with large raw files. That doesn't matter to me, though. If I have to get a picture immediately, I can insert the card into the computer.

I like being able to put the camera down by the computer and have the pictures upload automatically - no cables, no card readers, no opening and closing little doors. All my cards are 32GB.

Thank you. I thought of another category yesterday: when the camera cannot be directly accessed but one is within Wi Fi range of it, e.g. wildlife photography up close to the animals or a camera mounted above a basketball hoop during an actual game, etc.

Okay, I concede, there are a few "legitimate" uses. I just wonder what fraction of the users are employing them unnecessarily. Funny how the OP has never replied.

I am a true amater photographer, as in someone who performs a complicated act solely for the pure love of it. And I use my EyeFi card continually. Not that I feel any need to justify my expenditure to you, or my efforts to anyone, but you seem to feel you need to know.

I am a vet, limited disability, mostly effecting my ability to "quickly" move about, and my eyes are less than perfect, more from age than anything the service dId to me. My wife hikes every-other weekend with a group of hikers, and I act as the chauffeur. While they put on several miles, from 5 to 15 a day, I meander with my camera.

Often I capture some nice images, that the group enjoy at our after the hike meal. I love my camera, Canon SL1, but the small screen is not ideal for viewing, either by me or our friends. While my 8 inch Samsung Tablet is perfect for viewing and passing about.

The EyeFi easily, timely, and reliably transfers my photos in any environment to my tablet. It is what I do, my wife, our friends, and I find it increases our enjoyment of my hobby.

Upon return to the house, I hardwire transfer the photo to my computer, but for "in the field immediate viewing" we use the EyeFi Card capabilities.

If you think the expenditure will help you, or add to you enjoyment, try it. If not, don't get one.

I have an older Mobi Eye-Fi card and only use it when I'm with people from my photography club so that I can upload the jpg picture directly to social media after taking it.

I shoot with two cards. I shoot raw on one card, and medium sized jpg on the Mobi card. While at the clubs Christmas party, I took some pictures of the people. I have the raw images that I can put on the computer, and the Mobi jpg automatically load into my phone. I can choose a picture with so-and-so in it and upload to our clubs Facebook page right now.

Another reason I use it (although not very often), it when I'm shooting fashion photography with some of my fashion minded friends. I can use my tablet to do the same thing except that some of the people that are watching the shoot, or some of the other models can peek at my tablets as I'm shooting to see what the results are. I can also check my own work easier on a 10" screen better than the 3" LCD on the back of my camera.

I use the Toshiba flashair card. Somewhat similar to the eyefi card. I like using it when on a photo shoot with clients. I take a series of photos then share them with my client to quickly weed out the keepers. It makes my work flow go a lot quicker because I don't have to guess which ones the client will like. I note which ones the client likes and after the shoot I only process the keepers. It works for me.

I see Some like the WiFi cards, and others have No use for them, so I must now decide for myself, to spend my money on this Card or not.
