Yes I do mean SOS. I am a newbaby to this special web site . My husband is going to Washington DC on the Veteran Honor flight to view the War Memorials. He is 81 and will be in a wheel chair. My question to all you knowledgeable camera people what type of camera would be best for him. I want the pictures to turn out very good for him as this is a once in a life time trip. He leaves in April so I am up against a time frame to buy and teach him all about a camera. Thank you in advance for any help you can give to me.

I would think a simple point & shot style camera would do.
Camera bag, batteries and enough memory card(s) to take several hundred images.

Is there going to be someone assigned to him?
That would be a good person to help make sure he gets plenty of images of everything including him.

Others will jump in soon.
Pat

And, welcome to the form!!!

Another idea, make up a few cards to pass out that include his name and email and maybe other guests will share their images with him.

Canon SX 50; easy to learn to use; very good pictures.
Check Canon's site; refurbished sometimes available for $150-$180

A nice point and shoot with a long zoom (since he probably won't be able to get close to everything in a wheel chair) and one with at least 20 mega pixles. I own the Canon Power Shot SX710 HS and absolutely love it, awesome pictures and video, long lasting battery and high zoom rate. Relatively inexpensive. I think I paid around 350.00 about a year ago. Easy to use. Hope this helped.

Hello Pat
Thank you for you very good ideas. Especially the name card exchange. Our son will be with Dave. He is a fireman so is a perfect one to help. I will make sure they both know the how to's of the camera. Thank you again for your help.

Thank you for your help with the camera type. I will head to Costco to see if they have one. If Dave likes it I will check the cannon site. The price you quoted sounds very good. I thought they would be much more.
Thank you again for your help.

Whatever you get, consider a smartphone as backup. I've made plenty of trips where my iPhone was my ONLY camera, and was glad to have it on every one of them.

Any compact camera will take good pictures. I think it would be easier for him to use one with a viewfinder than have to hold it at arm's length.

Good choices here.

I hope you can post some of his pictures here.

why not just use his cell phone? It will take nice photos and is light weight and will fit in his pocket so no extra baggage.

I am certain that you will get a lot of great help here but I would like to add one thing. Please tell your husband that some old cowboy in Texas wants to thank him for his service to our country. I have already asked God to bless him, so get ready.

Another thought, When your son takes a shot of Dave ask him to get the camera down to Dave's level.
The images of Dave will look so much better, rather than looking down on him.
