My granddaughter, age six, will do just about anything to get attention.

It took me a year to get the shot I wanted of The Sentinel: Proper season, proper day, proper time of day, proper wind proper position of both flags, proper camer settings on the D700.

I went back many times. Could not get everything to come together as I wanted.

Until . . . .

Patrick,
Great shots here. Your narrative about The Sentinel just illustrates what I have read on several photography tutorial sites.... "The Importance of Going Back". If you "see' a shot in your mind...its worth the effort to see it printed.
Congrats
Rocco

The umbrella photo is darling. It did need a bit of brightening and detail boost in areas. I don't know if this is a composite or not but fill flash or a localized levels adjustment brought it up to snuff.

The grandaughter photo is awesome. Incredible editing job. I do think Bob's brightening of the photo is just the last little touch it needed.

Look closely at the difference between the original & edited version. I had to remove red color noise from the original. You can easily see it in the sky. I used Topaz DeNoise to accomplish this. :)

I understand, Bob, and agree. I did not notice the color noise and wasn't looking for it then, given that it was shot in bright sunlight, D70 f4.5 @ 1/60 ISO not included in the EXIF but probably 200 as that was my usual settings under those conditions. Now, between the D700 and PS ACR 6.5 I'm seldom plagued with noise that can't be easily handled.

Thanks for the edit. Your 'fill flash' really put the pop in the shot!
. . . . patrick
