Taken on side of busy road during fairly heavy snow for this area. There was a Sheriff watching from down the road. A crazy fellow in shorts was also shooting the scene. Guess we were both crazy. Anyway with the conditions the photo is certainly not perfect but I so like the feel of it. Any suggestions for improvement? I thank you much. Sandy

I like this image very much for its mood. I will be curious also to see how the image might be improved. Would be nice to be able to have that Sheriff move or turn a cow or something. About things that can still be done.. Take the pole behind the tree and make it be gone. And the patch of darker grey on the right, blend it in. Those changes would help get rid of small things that don't help.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will try to do what you said. May be later today though. Love watching cows and the fact that most in a group or herd always face in the same direction. Haven't caught them positioning yet. Check it out sometime. Glad you like the photo. S

Not just any old hill - one with a photogenic tree on it (does that make it one in a thousand? ). You say you like the mood, but I'm left wondering if it might be better a bit brighter.

Normally when it's snowing you get falling flakes close to the camera showing up and being potential distractions. The fact that you used a fair amount of zoom means that the DOF doesn't include the near snow flakes, so no distractions  .

A very appealing image for its mood, Sandy. So silent and gentle. I love that there is no view beyond the tree and cattle.

I admit I'm tempted to lighten a teensy tiny bit :)

A nice capture CSand. There is a lot of detail left to bring out should you choose to do so but it will effect the mood. I feel the composition could be improved by cropping in from the right to almost the tree and adding canvas to the left and bottom. To me it feels a bit cramped.

There is nothing wrong with it if it satisfies you as its presented here. If mood is all you want then its probably a success. If its a good photo with a degree of impact then it needs some work.
Like most shots in rain fog snow etc its come out flat with no depth. Not seen original and no idea of your software or PP skills but a bit of clarity with the tiniest touch of a colour filter applied as a gradient would bring it to life. This colour should be so subtle that it needs pointing out to folks, but that degree of subtlety works wonders. This should result in it being clearer and brighter at the front of the frame and left as it is towards the rear.
Nothing wrong as is, you like you frame it and hang it, just not reaching the heights that an hour in PP could achieve.
Lightening it overall will just give you a lighter shade of dull. Break it down into foreground mid ground and background. Hence enhancement with a gradient applied.

Regards Billy

R.G. I will try to lighten as I agree. But then "it is what it was". Gray and dull. Have company and not had the chance to work on photo. Hope to today. Isn't it an amazing tree! Thanks for your comments. S

Hey Billy, Wish I knew how to work with gradients, etc. You are right. I am sensing just a hint of lightening. Do appreciate your comments. S

I am very new to using Luminosity Masks and this picture is perfect for the process. Using these masks will give you the contrast you might like, subtle or extreme. I have just started using Aaron Dowling's plug-in ADPpanel+ for Photoshop and I am liking the results.

Jim, I am just going to have to "bite the bullet" and learn to use layers and masks. Hopefully I will have the time to do this in the months to come. Feel free to work this photo with your plug-in if you like. Thank you for your comments. Sandy

Here are 4 versions. They all have a different amount of Luminosity masks applied. As I said before I am a beginner with this technic. I did change white temperature and tint on 2 of them using Camera raw. As I changed the luminosity it was going green. Not sure how light or dark it should be. Should all be in the vision of the original poster. All these variations shows the power of Photoshop and luminosity. It is all up to the OP to show us what he is in visioning not us to tell you what looks good in our own mind. Jim

OMG, yes of course! It was just a funny mental image in my mind. Intended as humor, not as satire.

Jim-Pops - I like what you are doing!
