Looking through the local CL yesterday, I saw a Canon 1D X 18.1 mp listed for $1.00; it had 15,000 actuations. I, of course, responded that I was interested at that price point. Got an email response early this morning stating that the seller thought that $2,500 was a good price. Oh, well!! :-(

Craig's List is filled with scammers. It works, but one must be savvy & cautious. Looks like you hit one - but, a 1D X for $1.00?? Did you honestly believe it?

There will always be con-artist and they use platforms like Craigslist to take advantage of you. If it's to good to be true, 99% of the time it is. I feel your disappointment.

Over the years, probably 15, I have sold many camera bodies and lenses using Craigslist. I always meet the buyer in a Starbucks or McDonalds and explain the price is the price. I have never had an issue. Having said that, I have also had my share of scammers wanting me to send their camera to their cousin. I don't understand how anyone falls for this, but I guess they do because they still do it.

I see ads for $1 all the time. Not necessarily a scammer. In this area it seems that it means the person does not know what to price it at and buyers can feel free to make offers. I tend to avoid them as the seller will wait for the best offer rather than the first person who responds and that can take a while. Unless of course, it's an item of extreme interest ... :-)

I recently had a guy from Florida(I checked his area code) try to pull the "cashiers check) scam on me.

Needless to say, I didn't fall for it. But when I demanded payment by PayPal, I never heard from him again.

Like markngolf said, Unfortunately, "Craig's List is full of scammers" and to be quite frank,..Bull$hit Artists!

It's pretty common to see stuff listed for $1. Especially when selling multiple items. AND at $2500, that 1Dx was a very good buy!
Stolen is when it's listed as "camera only", no box or charger!!!! ;-)

It's not necessarily stolen just because they don't have the box, I never keep the boxes that things come in, even camera or lens boxes.

And do you also throw out the charger and the cables and the manual all the disk that came with it?!?!
Neither do I.
It's MUCH harder to sell a camera or lens without the box. In fact, in some cases the box alone is worth money!!! ;-)
