Love the boy's expression, his huge bright eyes (and freckles :) ), the tight framing, the sunlight and contrasts. Very appealing, Frank!
Question about your rich blacks: what color was shirt? Did you convert to a "finished" color image first? If not, what steps prior to going to your b&w editor? Thanks!
those eyes grab you and wont let go. I follow the line of his arm to the crab and get sucked back immediately to the boy's face and expression. He completely commands attention. Great composition, that boy's family should treasure this image!

The shirt is navy blue. I always try to produce the best color image possible and then convert to b/w in Ps. I start in Lr and then some finishing touches in Ps color wise, and then the b/w layer and more adj. layers in Ps to the finished image. Thank you for comment Linda and am glad you liked the composition.

Thank you for taking time to comment Piet. I cropped down just a bit and in from the left some.
Yeah, that's a terrific BOY! picture. Literally timeless. Could have been made in, say, 1956, of me, at Block Island. The eyes of course captivate. I like the fact that the kid is careful to keep the crab pointed away from his face. I have ONE tiny nitpick: the crab has a gray value identical or nearly so to the sky. It's a total nitpick :? but if I had made it I might try a very little graduated filter from right to very, very slightly darken the sky behind the crab and hand for a smidge more separation. :D

What a great image!
I can just hear what's going through his head...
"Do y'dare me t'put this down the back of Aunt Edna's dress?"
(it went through my head...my cousin Frank dared me....and I did...and did I ever catch hell!...in the Summer of 1948...)

You cropped the top of his head and his right shoulder. It was, I believe, exactly the right thing to do. We see those sharp eyes and mischievous expression and then we move to the crab. All the elements that need to be in this photo are there and the ones that don't matter have been eliminated or minimized. Very good work.
