A little over a week ago my wife dropped her backpack onto my D810. The camera functioned well enough, but in the process she broke the top LCD window. I contacted Nikon and they provided me with the place to send it to for an estimate.

In this week and a half since posting it to the service center I received the estimate, approved the service and I have the camera already back as good as new. They serviced the repair, installed firmware updates, cleaned and tested meter and sensors, and the camera looks almost like a brand new body.

I have owned Nikon since the mid 70's. I have only had a couple of occasions to use their service. One other time I sent in my D600 for them to check about the oil spotting. They confirmed it and sent me a brand new D610 which I am still using a couple of years later. I never even requested a new camera at the time.

This post isn't intended to put down other manufacturers. I am sure the others do their best as well. I am just pleased they have been very fast with their service. A week-and-a-half from my door to theirs and back.

Nikon took 3 weeks to replace the pins in the compact flash slot on a D800E. I was not impressed.

Gotta love a good review from a company.
My last photography instructor uses Nikons. He said he went to a Nikon seminar once, and the guy kept dropping the Nikon on the hard floor. Just to prove they were built tough!
And continued to prove that it worked fine afterwords!

I just rebuild the aquatic chamber to follow up with the developing frog tadpoles. Those chorus frogs are very tiny.

Probably had to get the parts in. doesn't sound like a standard or common repair part. Mine they had in stock.

Thanks SS. I hope I never require it again...LOL. Would go to another brand now that I have the setup I have. They are all good equipment nowadays. It is just a matter of preference as to which feels better for you.

It is kind of funny, but I see too many people concerned about the brand name instead of the quality of the work they produce. Makes me giggle. And I am not the giggling type.

I sent a lens in for repair a couple of months ago. It came back repaired, but the outside looked like somebody with grease on their hands packed it. I found out through the UPS tracking that they had outsourced it.

A few weeks ago I sent a second lens and specifically requested that it be repaired in house in Melville. Again, they outsourced it to the same place and added a front cap as part of the repair.

They never let me know it was being outsourced, nor did they say anything about the cap. The cap was there, and indicated on the repair request I sent in. If it was missing, they should have reported a discrepancy.

I will say that in addition to being repaired, the lens did come back in like new condition, what I was accustomed to from Nikon.

But, if they are going to outsource, I don't need Nikon or their prices.

Thought I would post a positive. I follow up with companies, whether it is Nikon, or the guy down the street to let them know they have a satisfied customer. I am sure they will always get those who complain.

This provides them with something to feel that people also appreciate their work.
