I know you'll get a kick out of this because everyone likes to hear about incompetence by the government.

We used to have a nice Social Security office in town, but that closed down a couple of years ago. Now we have to make an appointment and drive over an hour to get to the closest one, and those people have a reputation for being nasty.

My son wanted to replace his missing SS card, so he filled out the form he got online and mailed it to them. Yesterday, he received an envelope from their office. Inside the envelope was a letter that another person had written to them explaining his problems getting his card replaced. The letter to my son had his name and address at the top - so far, so good. Then he read the greeting: "Dear Constance Cappel."

So, they sent him someone else's letter, and they addressed their letter to him to another person. He's sending everything back to them and will try again.

That's the problem of using computers by people that don't know how to use them and trust them to be correct.

The problem with computers is that they are still used and programmed by people!

I'll betting the misdirected letter had that person's Social Security No. and address on it. A less scrupulous person could have had a field day applying for credit cards, etc.

They are only human. I applied for a death benefit, they called me to set up a telephone appointment. They called I gave them the info and they deposited the 255.00 in my account the next week. Very easy.

I hope each individual's SS number wasn't in the letter because that would mean that someone had another person's SS number and could use it fraudently (sp).

Try to get one replaced with the same mention on the bottom of the old card " FOR SOCIAL SECURITY AND TAX PURPOSES NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION " Gone are theses days :lol:

I hate having to go to our SS office, about all the employees are native americans, you have problems understanding some of them and I do believe some of them don't even know who they are much less what they are doing.
