They were 'discussing' this on a popular lunchtime radio show. Several theories can forward, the most likely being it's been left there as a prank, but these days many amputees have several 'legs' for different purposes. Maybe went home with his dancing shoes on - or with a crutch, if the leg become bothersome to wear as the night wore on. Never did hear the end of the show, or whether they resolved the issue.
My Dad gave me one of his old legs, like the one in the picture. For a while I used it as a place to sit (with shoe and sock) just to watch the reaction of people as they drove by. Later I turned it into a flower pot and left it on the front porch.
