I was looking on Craigslist in our area and noticed a Nikon D7100 for sale in box, barely used for $380 U.S. dollars. When I inquired about it I got an email that stated it had already been sold but if I contacted their friend, he could direct me to a bidding website. The only way to contact them is by a scrambled email address. I marked ad as prohibited but they run the ad every other day. I assume it was a website that you pay 50 cents every time you bid on an item. I thought it was too good to be true. Has anyone else encountered that kind of problem?

No because I do not care about rebate and small prices that do not come from legitimate sources.

This has scam written all over it. I read somewhere that nobody ever went broke by underestimating the intelligence of the public. You are an obvious exception.

No, I never have encountered anything like that. First off, I don't deal on CL. Next, why can't the original seller give me a web site. Why a munged email address, if I understand you correcetly? It's simple. Dear with reputable sources when purchasing expensive equipment.

Yes, I've come across that exact scam. Anything that seems too good to be true usually is a scam.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Joel, good morning.

I have never bothered to look at Craigslist because I've always heard negative comments made about it. Yet, if I were to be a person who would look at listings on Craigslist and saw a quality Nikon product listed at a ridiculously low price, the first thought that would come to my mind would be that people who had first purchased such a product would have more class than to stoop to selling their product on such a venue ~ which would then tell me that the ad isn't legit! Conclusion: Yes, you are correct ~ Buyer beware..

They appear to be striking nationwide. In Wichita they offered a Go Pro 3 for $69 and a Sony A7 for $450. Same scam different day. Beware, but luckily they only waste your time.

No, but there is on Craigslist a lady from Alexandria, Indiana, trying to sell her dead mother's false teeth.

I see a lot of low prices on CL with a gmail address, all are a scam of some kind.

Care should be most definitely be used with Craigslist. Joel is doing the right thing by flagging the ad. Sure, they just repost it, but it's the best you can do.

That said, I've picked up some great deals. I've also sold a number of items, and met some interesting people. Sure, a couple of flakes too, but that's life.
