I recently bought a used lens on Ebay; Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 OS, for what I thought was a good price: $750. The seller said that the lens was in great condition and fully functional. The lens arrived and looks brand new. I put it on my 5D to photograph birds in my back yard. It would not auto focus. I put it on my 50D and it would not auto focus. I have two Tamron lenses which I switched between the two boxes and had no problem. I cleaned the contacts on the Sigma lens and both cameras and had no auto focus. I am now in the process of trying to return it. This is disappointing, as I have bought used lenses on Ebay before and have had no problems.

you may want to contact sigma first, it may be as simple as upgrading the firmware in the lens.

You did not mention that you checked the switch to make sure it's ON auto-focus?! ;-)

So... If I get this right...

You purchase something from someone on E-Bay and complain it does not work?

What a surprise.

Ever heard of 'buyer beware'?

I sure am sorry this happened to you. I have purchased several items on eBay, most recently the Sigma 17-50, f2.8 for Canon mount and have been very satisfied. I do carefully evaluate the merchant reviews and refuse to buy from anyone with less than a 98% rating over a 12 month period.

Why did you come here to complain?

Contact the seller, tell him/her you have an issue and you'd like to be refunded as it's not what was advertised (a working lens)

Then the seller will either comply, or you get ebay involved and start a case.

They investigate, they find that the seller should give you your money back...they force him/her to do so.

That's where you should be headed...not the 'hog.

Even reputable commercial sellers sometimes ship faulty product, and resolving that is a pain too.

  Ebay will see that it is resolved. As a courtesy you shoud contact the seller first, eBay if no satisfaction there. Yes, it is a pain in the neck when this happens, but you will receive satisfaction in the end.

It happens. Just file a complaint with Ebay. It takes time but you will prevail.
