Stop Photos from automatically opening.
How can you stop Photos from uploading when you insert a memory card?I have the latest version of OS.
Thanks for the quick reply. I can't wait to try it.

Even easier... when you put the card in Photos will open up, but at the top-left of the window is a checkbox to disable it opening for that card/device. Subsequently, Photos will not open.

Right after putting in your USB stick or card, click and hold on the Photos icon. then click on Quit or Force Quit. I don't know how to stop it from opening automatically.

Bad idea to Force Quitting a program that does not have an issue, just turn it off in the program. Use methods described above to turn it off.

Yes, Capture48, another classic and fine example of PEOPLE NOT READING A THREAD!!! And this time there really is no excuse; it was not multiple pages.
Two correct solutions were provided in the first few replies, yet Ray felt compelled to respond with bad advice, and an admission that he had not read the thread where it is explained "... how to stop it from opening automatically." SHEESH!!!
But then, it was almost 3 AM, so perhaps Ray was tired.
Sorry to use you as an example, Ray, but this sort of thing happens a lot on UHH. It is not only annoying, but can lead to confusion if readers can't separate the good advice from the bad.
Maybe in a future upgrade of the forum original posts can be tagged as a question or problem (as opposed to an information post), and good answer posts can be tagged as having resolved the issue. A lot of forums have this feature.

Thanks for that. You learn something new everyday.
Ray. :)

OK, I apologize for accusing you of not reading the thread.
But knowing now that you did read the thread I am really puzzled why you would have said you don't know how to prevent it from happening automatically.

Because I had not personally tried any other way and just expressed how I did it, which probably was not the correct way, but worked for me.

The next time I'll try your way and hope it works.

Just to follow up on this, in the link showing the approach of using a terminal command to stop Photos from launching, the article states:
While you can stop Apple Photos from self-launching per device via the program itself, you have to do this for every device one by one plus, more annoyingly, every time you format your memory card, it treats it like a new device, Fon writes on Reddit. It was driving me bananas and I finally found a solution.
I used the checkbox that appeared at the top-left of the Import window when I inserted the SD card, and Photos no longer launches, even when I put in a different SD card (which should be the same as reformatting a card). In other words, I have solved the problem (I am running El Capitan, BTW).
I thought there would be a way of turning this feature on again in Photos Preferences, but it is not there. However, launching Image Capture and inserting an SD card will show the pictures on the card and give you the option at the bottom-left of the window to set which application will launch when the card is inserted.
Seems a bit of a roundabout way of doing things, but it can be done.
